Divine Timing and Surrender
Rev. Donna Baranyay
What an interesting summer we are experiencing. I wonder what is going through our minds and hearts day in and day out these past several months? I miss everyone -especially on Sundays! I am looking forward to the day when we can all meet again…and I understand that is in Divine Timing. I know I sometimes struggle with Divine Timing. Am I the only one?
Divine Timing is a spiritual concept in which we trust that the Creative Law is unfolding and manifestation is demonstrating…in It’s time which is not always in alignment with our timing and expectations. It can be hard to comprehend and understand that the Universe has our back when we are not seeing immediate results. When we think of the common analogy of the Science of Mind teachings as the seed, soil, plant metaphor we may understand in a deeper way. When we plant a carrot seed in the ground, water it, fertilize it, give it appropriate amounts of sun, the seed eventually bursts through the soil as a plant. What would happen if we dug up the seed to check on its progress? It would most likely die. Same thing applies to our prayers, dreams, and intentions. When we pray and release the treatment into the Law we trust. We let it go. We have set the intention into the Law and allow It to work. Then the work is on us. We have to surrender, learn how to let go of how and when our good manifests. It can be a difficult process, difficult to trust, let go, and believe that the Highest and Best Good is unfolding. This is where our spiritual practice assists us in trusting and surrendering. I had a really hard time with the word surrender when I was introduced to the Science of Mind teachings. However, Eckhart Tolle teaches, “Surrender is to say ‘yes’ to life—and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.” What if we are able to change any previous negative definition we have of the word surrender and replace it with this definition?
Ernest Holmes teaches us:
“When you want to do a big thing, get the mental pattern, make it perfect, know just what it means, enlarge your thought, keep it to yourself, pass it over to the creative power behind all things, wait and listen, and when the impression comes, follow it with assurance. Don’t talk to anyone about it. Never listen to negative talk or pay attention to it and you will succeed where all others fail.”
Surrender and trusting in Divine Timing are powerful spiritual practices. We plant the seed, do our prayer work, move our feet and trust. Trust in the Divine Timing that is God in Action.
I encourage us to remember that whatever is unfolding in our outer world, we have a choice on how to see it in our inner world – in our mind’s eye, our thoughts, choices, and ultimately our actions. Blessings to you!
