Unchained Spirituality

Rev. Nicole Von Atsingen, Co-Senior Minister

For many of us living in the United States of America we celebrate freedom in July. The 4th of July 1776 is the date we give to the completion of the Declaration of Independence. This declaration is a passionate and powerful document which was truly revolutionary.

One of the things that I find most inspiring about it is that it represents the spirit of Unchained spirituality, which we will be discussing in July. If you read the last paragraph of the declaration it states:

We, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the Rectitude of our Intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly Publish and Declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be, FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES, And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

When I read this, I am stimulated in my own spiritual truth sensing and recognizing the desire to be free from bondage free from suffering and putting complete and utter faith in divine Providence. It reminds me of a lecture I read by Dr. Ernest Holmes which he gave in The Wiltern Theatre on Sunday July 4th, 1937:

“Ever since the dawn of civilization, ever since the first humans began to grasp the significant fact that they were individual beings in a universe that seemed to be more or less hostile to them, the entire search of the human mind, its whole endeavor, has been to get free from evil, from bondage and the shackles of lack, want, fear, superstition, uncertainty, pain, disease, poverty, and fear of the hereafter.”

This month I invite us to find a place within ourselves to take a stand, to revolt against the ideas and beliefs which have been keeping us in bondage, holding us captive. I invite us to declare our independence our freedom! To live and breathe and move by divine guidance without apology in peace and love and courage.

Rev. Nicole Von Atzingen

Nicole is the Co-Senior Minister at the Seal Beach Centers for Spiritual Living. Her ministry is to remind humanity of its inherent Goodness. One word to describe Nicole is enthusiastic, she is filled with Spirit and loves to share it. She is also a fourth-generation Religious Scientist who admittedly, although growing up in the Science of Mind philosophy, had to walk away for a few years in order to discover the truth of our philosophy in her own life.
