Our Bodies
Rev. John DePalma
“My body is beautiful and sacred and I’m going to celebrate it”.
– India Arie

Our bodies carry us through most of our years without much attention. Do we ever stop and think about all the incredible processes happening every second without even noticing? Respiration, digestion, circulation without a thought! Miracles every second, every day, for decades!
“If you’re not in awe, you’re not paying attention” -Erika Lockett, Lisa Ferraro
Your awareness, your thoughts, feelings emotions pulsing changing, expressing about every blooming thing imaginable!
“If you’re not in awe, you’re not paying attention”- EL,LF again
But there’s more. All art, music, literature, all science, technology all made by the bodies of people everywhere.
“I am not contained between my hat and my boots” – Walt Whitman
What’s missing for most of us is discipline. By that I mean having a willingness to sit at our own feet as a disciple of our human (body) experience. To grow and learn from every situation, condition and experience. To grow and learn from every thought feeling and emotion and then create something greater that rises from something not of the body. As the Grateful Dead sang:
“Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup be full may it be again
Let it be known there is a fountain
That was not made by the hands of men”
As we mine deeper into the experience of the body/mind there is always the possibility of risk
“The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom” -William Blake
But there’s the possibility of spirit finding some new delight through our imagination
“How do you know but every bird that cuts the airy way is an immense world of delight closed to our senses five.” -Blake again
We’re here to love our bodies and everything that animates them. To live in a physical world in a wholly spiritual way.
“ My body is beautiful and sacred and I’m going to celebrate it” -India Arie
