We’re all familiar with the lyrics to this song; we sing it every Sunday!
Yet with all the craziness in Ukraine, pandemic exhaustion, and economic worries the level of fear, doubt, and worry (uncertainty) finding any peace can seem overwhelming.
To be sure the events in Ukraine deserve our attention, compassion, and support to whatever degree we can manage. Understanding our role in promoting and praying for peace can be tricky.
Praying for peace is like praying for air…we are immersed in it, it surrounds us, we breathe it, and it is within us. What I must do is discover and root out the unpeaceful parts within me, the anger, hatred, worry, fear and breathe out the toxic thoughts that obstruct that harmony, peace, joy, grace and ease within that simply wants to be expressed. Wishing someone would behave how we want, whether it be Putin or a beloved one, puts our good outside of us.
Here’s an interesting perspective from Abraham Hicks:
“A belief that the behavior of others must be controlled—so that your observation of that good behavior will make you feel good—leaves you feeling vulnerable to their behavior.
We would like to help you to understand that neither the good feeling you find when you observe wanted behavior, nor the bad feeling you find when you observe unwanted behavior, is actually the reason that you feel good or bad. The way you feel is only ever about your alignment, or misalignment, with the Source within you. It is only your relationship with the Source within you (with your own Inner Being) that is the reason for the emotions that you feel.
While it is nice to find things in your physical environment that enhance your good-feeling alignment with your Inner Being, your understanding of why you feel good will make it possible for you to feel good regardless of the behavior of others.
Understanding that the way you feel is really about your Vibrational relationship with your Inner Being—with the Source within you, with the expanded version of you who resides inside your Vortex—gives you complete empowerment and absolute freedom.”

Committing to discovering the unpeaceful parts within us is the most important work in this time of uncertainty.
“We are most powerful when we are being whatever we want to find in the world. This is our first responsibility.”
~ Adyashanti, Being an Expression of Peace
Here’s a Spiritual Mind Treatment that can help us get started.
There’s only one life expressing in as and through me with every breath I take. It is unconditional love, infinite wisdom, creative intelligence, and perfect peace. I open my heart wide as I breathe deeply accepting this as my reality right here and now. All those feelings of worry, doubt, fear, and anger are not the truth of who I have come here to be. In this moment I recognize that I have animated them with my energy and attention, draining my strength and harmony. By action of this treatment, I withdraw my energy back to my center, a center of peace and poise in the world, allowing that uncertainty to disintegrate into the nothingness from which it came. In it’s place I can breathe deeply and relax. I may not know what to do next, but I trust that Spirit inspires, guides, and supports me in bringing the best I have to life, for the highest good for all. I’m so grateful to re-center myself in this place with grace and ease and release this treatment into the law of mind letting it be so.
And so it is!
