June 2022 Council Blog
Marjorie Wray, RScP & Leadership Council Chair
Dear Congregants,
This month, our Interim Minister Rev John, will be here June 9-13. He will be speaking on Sunday June 12 and will be doing one of his amazing workshops. Remember these workshops are presented without a fee or love offering. Part of his purpose is to support us in expressing more and more love and extraordinary respect for each other.
This is all a part of preparing us to attract our perfect Minister. We have a new gardening group! We did a visioning workshop and decided that their vision is: “Love is flowing in our fresh, welcoming and pleasing garden.” You might see them working in the garden after Sunday services. This is all done by volunteers and they are donating the plants. Keep your eyes out for improvements in our gardens and let us know if you want to become one of the volunteers!!
I have always loved the fact that we walk our talk. Our mission statement is about supporting a world that works for everyone. We have continued throughout the pandemic to provide lunches for Christain Outreach in Action in Long Beach on the first
Saturday of the month. Because of the pandemic, we are providing sack lunches rather that cooking a hot lunch at their facility.
We have also continued to tithe to community organizations that support a world that works for everyone. In June, our tithe is going to Working Wardrobes in Santa Ana and Irvine. They support people wanting to return to the workforce by honing their skills to find a job. Besides training and mentoring they provide clothing appropriate for job interviews.
Last month I announced that we are reviewing potential rental possibilities. I am pleased to say that SBCSL entered a contract with SoCal Wedding Consultants. They will be doing all the booking (based on sanctuary availability), marketing, and all the setup, cleanup and everything in between – i.e. decorations, tables, chairs catering etc. In essence all we do is provide the space. This is a new contract so it is too early to see how much this will bring in the way of rental income, but it looks very promising. They created a website to promote our wedding chapel as well. It’s at sealbeachcenter.com, and is connected to our SBCSL website.
Much Love,
Marjorie Wray
