August 2022 Council Blog
Marjorie Wray, RScP & Leadership Council Chair
Dear Congregants,
I am very proud of our Jewel By the Sea. I am happy to say that we continue to remain financially stable. At the same time, we are not in a position to make a robust offer for a full time Senior Minister via the “candidating process”.
We are, however, exploring ways to collaborate with Namasté under the leadership of Rev Bobbi and with Rev. Sunshine’s La Vida. Leaders (Council members & Practitioners) from the 3 centers have met twice at Namasté. So far, with the guidance of our Interim Minister Rev. John, we are making sure our values are in alignment and agreeing how we explore what treating each other with extraordinary respect is manifested. Our Practitioners and their Practitioners have agreed to move forward exploring how we can support our communities.
We have decided that the easiest beginning point is to collaborate on Education. For you, this would mean that there might be students from another center attending our classes and you will have the opportunity to take classes from another center. It has always been possible to do this. In the past for the most part, it was done very passively without a lot of forethought. We are still working out the details and we will keep you posted. We want to remain transparent so we will have a Town Hall meeting after every collaboration meeting. We are looking at ways to support each other’s technology and space considerations.
Since August is generally when children go back to school, our community Tithe is the Assistance League of Huntington Beach. Last August we gave our tithe to Assistance League of Long Beach. The Assistance League has a School Bell program that provides backpacks with school supplies and school clothing for children that otherwise might not have such things. The children are allowed to purchase these items with the assistance of an Assistance League member.
Enjoy your August!
Much Love,
Marjorie Wray
