How Will You Respond?

Rev. Donna Baranyay

As metaphysicians how can we address what is happening in our world right now?

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. – Victor Frankl

How is what is happening on the physical level affecting our spiritual world? Are you turning to various spiritual practices? Increased prayer and/or meditation time? More time for a walk with our pet or by ourselves. Walking meditations can be powerful experiences. How about journaling or writing letters? I have found that I am doing more forgiveness work during my quiet time. I am dedicating time to taking a deeper look into my priorities and where I want to spend my precious time once we are no longer self-isolating and practicing self distancing. I am also realizing how much I took for granted including people I spent time with and places I could go freely. While I am an introvert I enjoyed being able to come and go as I pleased, visiting those whom I wanted, spending time at places I wanted to, and even plan trips and vacations.

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. –Victor Frankl

Through all of this I realize that I get to choose how I respond. I choose to respond with love, compassion, and deep sense of knowing that the Divine is in the midst of all that is unfolding in our world. I am grateful for the heart to heart connections that I experience every day. I am grateful to believe in and live from a spiritual teaching that teaches love rather than fear, inclusiveness not judgment, and compassion for all. Ernest Holmes taught we have a choice in how we live. He encouraged self-discovery and transformation. How about we spend this time discovering more of who we are, deepening our relationship with the Divine, and choosing to live from that space today, tomorrow, and in the weeks and months to come?

Please remember that we are here for you during this time of change, healing, and new expression of Life that is unfolding for each of us. If you feel called, please reach out for prayer, love, and support.
