A Philosophy, A Faith, A Way of Life

“These lessons are dedicated to that Truth which frees man from himself and sets him on the pathway of a new experience…”
On the cover of the text, The Science of Mind, by Ernest Holmes, the sub-title reads:
“A Philosophy, A Faith, A Way of Life”. SOM presents the intertwining of science, philosophy and the mystical and unifying threads of all major religions. Science teaches us that Life is forever creating and re-creating new forms of itself; from every end comes a new beginning.
As I recently watched a National Geographic TV series narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson called “Cosmos: Possible Worlds”, I noted this:
“The universe makes galaxies; galaxies make stars; stars make worlds. These future planets and moons are awash with organic molecules, the chemical building blocks of Life. This is their inheritance from the deaths of other stars. Chemical reactions preceded the first cell, the origin of life-forms. From the deep sea beds, Life then took hold in the rocks, and then started escaping.”
Life may be the result of happy accidents, evolutionary inevitability, or a combination of both. But in these most challenging of times we have a blueprint from this SOM text, along with many other insightful readings, to guide and support us on our individual journeys. As we evolve we are continually creating new beginnings for ourselves, our fellow beings, and the planet, for though we each are whole and singular unto ourselves, there is no denying that we are inter-connected with the process of life-unfoldment for the entire planet, affecting our present on into our future. Indeed, our choice is a simple one: we are either affecting or infecting. We must bring an uplifted sense of inner well-being into alignment with the world around us.
Jean Houston stated in her introduction to the SOM text, “…the cosmic engine is started but man guides it in his own life.” She also mentioned “…being recreated through the renewing of our minds.” Whatever path we follow toward this renewal, it is clear that Affirmative Prayer is a powerful practice in promoting our own evolution, drawing forth inspiration, solace and healing to transform and recreate through the “renewing of our minds.”
This is written on the front page of the text:
“These lessons are dedicated to that Truth which frees man from himself and sets him on the pathway of a new experience…”
